Dr Gina Newton

A former National President of AMSA, and now Life Member, Gina has worked at the science/policy interface for the Commonwealth Government for a long time! Her roles featured working in various fields, such as: fisheries (including deep-sea), State of the Environment reporting, coastal/marine climate change science & adaptation, and the Murray-Darling Basin. Her favourite role is the listing of threatened ecological communities (aka ecosystems) under the EPBC Act—coastal saltmarsh, salt-wedge estuaries, and a major estuarine/river system, are highlights. A proponent of science communication, Gina is also an award-winning children’s book author, and her 7 trade publications include Hold On! Saving the Spotted Handfish.
